Every now and again I'll go through The Big Blogroll looking for broken and inactive links, and this evening is one of those times. I've removed 10 blogs from TBB, storing their links in one of several categories.
Munificent Musings, a short-lived blog that replaced the also short-lived (but well read) Perusing Life just up and died on me a few weeks ago. I have no idea why, or what happened to the blogger, but the link returns nothing but a blank page, so it goes on the Inactive list.
Jared W. Smith: The Planet. I added this to TBB during the planet-building craze back in the summer, but it's not entirely local and not really a blog. Plus, you can still get to it via Jared's excellent web site. If you've never gone beyond Jared's blog, you really should go explore over there.
Islandpreacha used to the blog of a minister on Wadmalaw. Now it's 404.
Also 404 is Malloman, a recent USC grad who moved here to work for a local paper.
Hollywood Swinging was a promising blog in the spring. It was written by a local man who was working on a film. Maybe he's just busy with filmmaking, but he hasn't blogged since June. The site's still up, but listed as Inactive.
Ruined for the Ordinary's blogger was getting married back in April and has been AWOL ever since. I actually thought I removed this blog months ago, but apparently I missed it.
The Folly Surfcam Surf Blog was a great idea for a blog -- man, could you build readership around an idea like that or what? Unfortunately it has seldom been much more than an idea. The last post at this site was on Aug. 1, and that was only the second post since May. Inactive.
Fort Sumter and Civil War Resources is a blog I never really understood, but it's been idle since early August too, and so I'm moving it over to the Inactive list as well.
Duke, the blogger at Folly Pundit, started off as an active poster and commenter back in May. He enjoyed tweaking the noses of other bloggers and publications and hinted that he would be participating in a new blogging venture involving several former news people. Then he ran into computer/hosting problems and fell right off the radar. On June 28 he cropped up with an announcement: "Welcome to the Folly Pundit. This weblog discusses sports and issues relating to sport." Later that day he made one more post. We've heard nothing from him since. Hence his current status as "Inactive."
And finally, we bid farewell (geographically, anyway) to Jemima, who recently quit her job, packed her stuff and headed off to San Francisco to start a new life. You can continue to read about her adventures on our Ex-Pat list.
Remember: Being listed as Inactive isn't a punishment. It's a status. To become active again, start blogging again. To get back on The Big Blogroll, send me an e-mail to let me know that you're writing again.
