Here is the thing though. This girl was sincerely trying to do the best for a baby that she loved more than anything in the world. She was determined to be the best possible mother that she could. She admitted and fully understood the challenges facing her as a teen mother.

But she didn't know anything about babies. And as a teen, she was at the height of the adolescent "task" of development which a great part of is separation from and questioning the teachings of her mother in order to develop her unique sense of who she was.

I glanced at her blogroll and recognized a name from seventh grade.  As it turns out, Becky is married to a guy I used to sit behind in almost every class thanks to alphabetical order.

I often think how my mother felt that day--she was only 19--and how she would end up only a few years later alone with five children in New York City.  She must have been scared and lonely, but she did was necessary and then some.

My mother was an intelligent and courageous person. She loved to read--especially history, and I remember her giving me books like Gone with the Wind and On The Wings of Eagles to read so we could discuss them together.  She take us to the library where we all sit and read for hours.  I also remember a box of brand new books mysteriously appearing at our doorstep.  I'm sure it was someone at the library.  God bless you wherever you are.

Waiting for a table seems to have a magical effect on many diners. In part, perhaps, once you've waiting an hour smelling freshly cooked food and getting hungrier by the minute and downing one or two cocktails, you're probably more likely to find whatever meal you are eventually served to be far tastier than if you'd just walked in off the street a few minutes before. And, of course, there's the psychological effect of seeing a crowd of people jamming into a restaurant: if all these other people are waiting, it must be good food.

The review will be led by Mayor Joe Riley, Fire Chief Rusty Thomas and Police Chief Greg Mullen along with 4-6 "outside experts" who are "very distinguished" fire service veterans. I hope that Vincent Dunn will be one of those distinguished fire service veterans. He has an unequalled reputation in the fire service and was a 42 year veteran of the FDNY. It begs the question as to who will be on this panel and will their conclusions be open-minded ?

Andrea, took us out kayaking. She's a kayaking guide this summer and has access to all the boats and equipment. We went out on a tidal creek near Folly Beach for a sunset tour, and we had the best time! We saw dolphins, all kinds of birds, shrimp jumping up out of the water (was I the only one who didn't know that shrimp jump up out of the water?), and oyster beds.

Finally, Painter in Hiding received a promotion.  Go congratulate her.
