Here's Today's Round-up
This is Heather, from Moncks Corner Moments, filling in for Dan. Please accept my apologies if I missed anyone.
Politics
Charleston Watch expresses little sympathy for CARTA's being denied an additional 2.3 million. Some charities may go without as well, but the issue will be reopened Tuesday evening. Agricola brings some very salient points about the NSA telephone database. GMLc also touches on the NSA eavesdropping here and here. Growing up, my father was in the military. I remember having a list of words that we were not to use when speaking on the phone; I guess the idea has always been a part of my life. I think the old project was called Eschelon. JanetLee also touches the NSA situation but from a more personal perspective. Mike from New Wars has a rundown touching on Iran, the border, the NSA and data mining.
Travel
The Tail of the Dragon is a road in North Carolina with "318 curves in 11 miles." Patti was kind enough to share pictures of the corvette run. It looks like it was a lot of fun. Luke, Maria, and Ray spent some time in Hilton Head. The Chump (I can call you that, right?) heads to Atlanta for the weekend. Windviel heads to Beaufort.
Puppy Love
Eugene discusses doggy input and output on Imablog. I have noticed the same thing with Nutro.
News from the Net
Geoff provides links to Moveon.org's petition to preserve net neutrality.
Weather
Brian says storms are on the way. Of course, there are few things I like more than a stormy evening. I just hope the power stays on, this time, I'm tired of resetting clocks. Brian also reminds us of hurricane season. Pam talks roses and suggests we take a walk at Hampton Park if the weather is nice.
Art
Over on Baxter Sez Walter brings his final installment of Jemima and the Grits where he explains art with a capital A.
[I] believe that real capital A Art started as an effort to communalize. To humanize and create a sense of place and history.
Bellascribe provides links, some with writing prompts and others for inspiration. The few times I've ventured to PostSecret I've left feeling unsettled. I guess I've gotten comfortable in life and sometimes need to be reminded that there are times when we do things we'd rather not speak of. I can see it as a potential literary goldmine.
Charlotte, of flipside, shares a new photo.
OK, so this is would probably fall more under home improvement, but I felt I could squeak it in. Microfamous discusses a painting technique best suited for those who live alone.
Spoleto
Miscellaneous
Let's congratulate Earl he has had his Iconography Paper accepted for publication, his first in a non-student role. A very happy birthday to Laura at Americorp NCCC. Josephine, of Appalachian Mermaid is excited about her future and her brother's graduation. Jason and I seem to have something in common. For the life of me, I can't quiet my mind when I'm supposed to be relaxing. I am jealous of the massage. Patrick shares a photoshow from The Purple Ball, an Alzheimer's Benefit. Ty dreams of being Vegan but I will let him explain. April explains how to abuse an AC adaptor and the wonder that is e-bay.
Jeremy found that researchers at the University of Rochester have made light move backward. Jet at Bushido Way introduces us to prizzly bears. Paul wants to know what bad words we use. I won't risk my guest blogger status here, but I've worked in many kitchens and chefs rival sailors. Charlie rates some movies.
Finally, Gene is fighting peripheral neuropathy as a side effect of Taxol. My heart goes out to her. Hang in there, we are pulling for you.
Joan, I should have added that journalspace was down when I tried to access your site. I know you had an update, but I couldn't view it when I was doing the round-up. I'm sorry.

Ooohh, I know. I've been getting emails :). Journalspace is having problems. First the comments all disappeared and now we can't log on at all. Gasp. Withdrawal.

Once again, great job Heather.
Duke, consider yourself listed. I'll be doing an update later today. Welcome aboard.
I hope everybody got through the storms OK.

Heather, great roundup. I'd love to know the list of words your military dad told you not to say on the phone! That's so cool.
