Jason supplies the link to the Folly Beach Surfcam blog, and that's a nice addition. What I like about the concept is that if local surfers start commenting, the community of local surfers gets a new resource. Unfortunately, this blog faces something most of us know first-hand: Comments build traffic, but to get comments you need traffic. Lets get the word out to the surf crowd and see if we can help this thing along.
Now here's the find that's really got me excited: Tales from the Microbial Laboratory, which, yes, is about science. But it's about so much more than science. Humor? Check. Politics? Check. Beautiful photography? Check.
And that still doesn't describe this blog. The author posted a poem on Wednesday, and it knocked my socks off. I'm about 99 percent sure I know who the author is, and the notion that she would make a great blog doesn't surprise me. But this is just amazing. Tales from the Microbial Laboratory is less than a month old, but it's already a creative, surprising place to visit.
For what it's worth, I've collected a couple more local links that I'm not putting up yet. One of them is a friend who is still shy about lots of strangers reading her stuff. Which is too bad, because she writes thought-provoking, spiritual posts. Another is by an author whom I happen to know is still in high school. It's entirely possible that someday I'll put up a link to a blog run by a minor and never guess that, but since I knew this was a young blogger I invited him to let me link to his stuff once he got the OK from his parents.
Which kinda sounds like a policy, eh?
