Here at Friday 5, we want to know:
Who are the most interesting artists in the Lowcountry in 2007?
Leave your suggestions, impressions, links and arguments in the Comments section below. If we get good info here, a 5 List could be coming to a Friday section soon...
Carol mcGill is my favorite local painter and she has recently opened her own gallery on Broad St. Carol's paintings are bold, with beautiful bright colors! They are truly different from most of the art work we see in Charelston. Thanks Carol for brightening our world!

Three great local artists:
Tate Nation, gallery in MtP, does colorful, pleasantly quirky scenes of the Lowcountry.
Bernadette Cali, Maybank Rd., Wadmalaw Island, captures the look and feel of Wadmalaw and Johns Islands with paintings of the historic structures there.
Honor Marks, Charleston, does beautifully realistic oils of the lowcountry's rare and endangered species.

Sean Ahern is a local artisan blacksmith who is incredibly talented. He is one of few in a dying craft and creates beautiful iron, bronze and copper sculptures, gates, fountains, stair rails, fireplaces and furniture. A younger version of Philip Simmons, and equally as talented. Often his designs incorporate organic elements such as vines, flowers and birds. Check him out online: http://www.ahernsanvil.com

Manning Williams has to be the leading artist in the city - his work rivals shows in New York such as Comic Abstraction at the MOMA! If anyone doesn't know William Halsey, they should. He is the now deceased father of abstract expressionism in Charleston. Karin Olah is a young artist to watch - dynamite work - mixed media with fabric both abstract and representational. She is the Farmers Market poster artist for the second year in a row.
