Vera H.

When bad things happen, they should be reported, just as when good things happen, they should be reported.

The problem for me is when (I'm talking about the media in general here)things get overly hyped (Tropical Storm Alberto) or when the loudest and strangest of the bunch gets the most attention just because they are loud and strange but not a true representative of the event.

I guess I just want--dare I say it--fair and balanced coverage without hysteria.

While I know everyone's idea of what's f&b differs, it's should be the goal.

I agree with you, Vera, about the hype. My sense is that it often grows out of cable news stations that have to fill 24 hours a day, seven days a week with "news." They jump on a story of marginal news value and ride it until it falls apart.
