You're supposed to be on the Group W bench!

This was a week when we had a bunch of good captions that didn't make the finals because they were too long for the polling widget. Thank goodness we had a bunch of quality shorter captions, too.

The invitation to try your hand at captions does not tell us newcomers to limit words, at least this old Kentucky boy trying his hand at humor didn't know I was putting too much of my left brain into over drive trying to capture the whole cartoon when the space provided, even if I did get lucky and find a winner, could not hold but "X" amount of words. Of course, after reading the one-liners, they were tops anyway... My 7th Grade English teacher always tried to tell me "less is more." My brain just don't work that way. Caption by dictionary def. may actually mean only one short line and that could just be my ignorance. Too bad not enough grey matter for me to simplify things. At least now it will be eaiser for me to just read everyone elses but it may not be a bad idea to say captions: only "X amount of words or characters fit on lines if you are trying to get in top five.
On the bright side, you saved me some time on the weekends now. Keep up the good work, this is one of the best things I have seen in a newspaper in years. Unless I see one I can "fit tight," I'll go back to reading but then again, my doctor did say, "if you don't use it, you will lose it." I wonder what was he talking about anyway?
