Hi y'all. It's Dan here, begging for your attention.
On Friday I announced my fourth reader game at Fun & Games (the blog and the weekly section on Page 2 of the Friday 5 features section). This week's game: Write a one-sentence pitch (or "log line") for a movie that is somehow related to Charleston. I figured this would be a good venue for the wits among us to come up with something clever.
So far, though: crickets.
Everything I'm doing at Fun & Games is an experiment, which means that some ideas may never catch on. Caption contests? Readers understand those. When I do caption contests, I get dozens of entries. Word games? I'll get a nice selection. However, last week's riddle was clearly too difficult, as only two people managed to solve it.
Maybe there's something wrong with the movie-pitch contest, but I've got that stubborn sense that it's a decent idea that's still just looking for the right people to demonstrate its potential. Such as:
RETURN OF THE SPOLETIANS: "Nigel Redden's back -- and he's bringing culture to the masses via the smoking barrel of an untraceable Tech-9 automatic."
ALAMO II: JAMES ISLAND: "Besieged on all sides by invaders from across the river, James Islanders staging a last-ditch defense of their municipal independence are buoyed by the news that Sen. Glenn McConnell (Colin Farrell) is riding to their aid."
And so on. You can do better.
If you can think of something, e-mail it to my work address... deadline is Tuesday at 5 p.m., and the winner gets a T-shirt...
