Here's this blog's first big announcement: Some of the locals have gotten together via e-mail exchange and arranged to hold a Lowcountry blogger party next month. Then they let us announce it here, which was nice.
Here are the details, so take notes:
WHAT: Local blogger get-together/party/dinner
WHEN: 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 16
WHERE: Toucan Reef restaurant at Aquarium Wharf (on the water behind the IMAX)
WHO: You
WHY: This is Charleston. Since when does anybody need a reason to socialize?
If you're a local blogger, please come. We'll keep a list here of everyone who is planning to attend, and once we've got a pretty good picture of how large the crowd is, we'll reserve some tables.
To get on our list, send an e-mail to conover@postandcourier.com with the subject line "BLOGGER PARTY."That will get my attention. I'll set up a guest list post here and add to it.
If I'm reading this e-mail distribution list right, blogs that are already planning to be there include Mustang Rolling, Walk This Way, Notoriously Nice, Microfamous, Xark, GMLc, Cavaliers and Roundheads, Kittens on the Keyboard and Baxter Sez.
And don't forget: Regardless of what you're doing on the 16th, you're all invited to drop in on Saturday's Uplifter gig at Kudu Coffee, 1 to 5 p.m.
ELSEWHERE:
Tales from the Microbial Lab has more family garden lore... GMLc notes that the forecast high for Charleston is quite a bit warmer than the forecast for Baghdad... Chuck offers us a moment of Zen -- no title, no words, just Mr. Chuckography with a mug of hot steamin' Joe (that's generic Joe -- in Charleston one must specify, or else readers assume you're talking about either the mayor or the ballpark).
Joan records a walk down Calhoun that ends with a waterfront shot that could have come from Egypt...Mike talks about the tropical cyclones that have been kicking the Vegemite out of Australia and wonders if Australia is the New Florida (I doubt it, but then again, I'd be willing to make that trade). Personally, I figure if we've still got a few more weeks before H-Word Season starts, I'm going to wait a few more weeks before mentioning The H-Word.
Heather has a young one. Consequently, Heather isn't sleeping too well. Heather has our sympathies.
Jason has a list of things that annoy him. It includes both Bill O'Reilly and fire ants. He's also not real big on Sand Gnats, and after last night's 4-3 loss to the Savannah pests, I'm not big on them either (but the Yankees' phony developmental pitching rotation is what cost the Riverdogs the game). Janetlee ponders getting organized... someday... and leaves us with this indellible word picture: "Example number 1001 that working night shift isn't good for your brain cells: butter knife in the fridge, butter in the sink."
More Uplifter talk at Xark and Cavaliers and Roundheads... Old Controller is on a roll, arguing with someone from another discussion board, getting angry about Osama being described as a "dissident" and channeling a Michelle Malkin item about the sentencing of a child murderer (in England).
Windviel joins the discussion about President Bush's diplomatic skills at Agricola: "In the matter of Hu and the heckler in the crowd, that was a Sterling moment for Mr. Bush. How he will perform in the future we cannot predict, but he has often scored in the bottom of the 9th when under estimated by his opponents." Agricola moves on, taking aim at the media and the CIA leaker and later on "the revolting generals."
Kelly has a big writing day and questions her sanity... It is perhaps worth noting that we do this on a regular basis. Whether that counts as good company for Kelly remains to be seen.

Sounds like at least a car, a couple of cavaliers and roundheads and some kittens may show up. Interesting crowd :)
Looking forward to putting some faces to blogs.

The quotation of a selected segment of our comment to Agricola was misleading. We invite the reading of the full comment at:

I think I can round up a sitter for May 16. It sounds like fun.
I'd love to do the Uplifter thing, but not with the rugrats in tow. I hope everyone has fun.
