About this web log

  • There is no shortage of questions swirling around what we do and what passes for journalism these days. I am hoping to use this blog to deal with some of those questions and foster a dialogue, ideally civil, about The Post and Courier, Charleston.net and our coverage of the Lowcountry.

Bill, here's what I just sent to Andy Paras. Have you considered an "ongoing report" for the other counties you serve? Or does a 10 am story or 1:45pm story pop up then at the online Post and Courier? Can locals follow local events as they happen throughout the coverage area or does that still remain the noon news territory?
Thanks.

Chuck

Andy, Keep doing what you're doing! I live in Berkeley County but applaud your "keeping the readers informed" attitude.

Was it your decision to pick up this story that did not appear in Colleton's early edition? Kudos my man.

In the past, people tuned in the noon news then 4, 5, 6 and 11 o'clock tv news because the paper wouldn't be out 'til the next morning. YOU are helping to change that.

The fact that YOU are looking out for Colleton County is an added bonus for readers....and for the paper.

We notice that!

We're pleased with what Andy is doing in Colleton and it is our goal to bolster the coverage from other counties as well. We have just signed a contract for a new content management system for Charleston.net that will allow us to do a lot more slicing and dicing of the news by geography or subject matter. It is central to our plan to move closer to a 24-hour cycle for breaking news, much as we did during Ernesto. We did break the news of both the Wando arrests and Kandrac verdicts yesterday, well before the six o'clock TV report!
