About this web log

  • There is no shortage of questions swirling around what we do and what passes for journalism these days. I am hoping to use this blog to deal with some of those questions and foster a dialogue, ideally civil, about The Post and Courier, Charleston.net and our coverage of the Lowcountry.

Multi-Media

An ear for a story

Multi-media are a pair of hot button words in today’s newspaper industry. That’s when print, photos, video and audio all start coming together on a newspaper's Web site.

We have started to experiment with multi-media presentations at The Post and Courier, as our photographers, most notably Alan Hawes, have learned to create photo slide shows and enhanced them with audio or video to tell a story in new and compelling fashion.

To see what I am talking about, go to Charleston.net and click on Web Extras in the far left column. That will take you to some special work we have done for the Web. I especially recommend:

April 2 – 2006 Cooper River Bridge Run slideshow.

March 26 – The Battle of Charleston slideshow.

You will find other slideshows on Charleston.net, showcasing the work of South Carolina’s best photo staff. But the two sites above will give you a better idea of where we are heading.

Multi-media presentations will be a major component of Charleston.net, and will require our photographers to have an ear, as well as an eye, for a great story.
