Photo

Anybody but me like "Where's Waldo?" If so, you might enjoy looking at the main photo on today's Sports page. It was taken at the dramatic conclusion of the Duke/Clemson basketball game. Jubilant Blue Devils. Despairing Tigers. It was a slice-of-life photo that says it all.

Check for two women holding a little girl in a hammerlock in the front row. The poor child is wearing a child-sized Duke cheerleading outfit, but after being held like a sack of potatoes, she  might lose her enthusiasm for the role.

Then there's a little girl -- a lone Clemson orange t-shirt  -- in the fifth row. Your heart has to go out to her as she clasps her face with her hands.

And above it all -- the clock showing 00:0.

Ah, sports

Yesterday, a very nice man canceled his subscription to The Post and Courier because the Sports section had too many stories about Clemson to suit him. He's an unabashed Gamecock fan.

He didn't dispute that Clemson's basketball team is giving reporters more to write about than USC's. He didn't dispute that some of those Clemson stories were stories Clemson fans weren't happy to read -- like the one about UNC clobbering the Tigers. His didn't accuse the paper of being unfair. He simply wants to read more about USC and less about Clemson.

I am hopeful this reader will return one day. He did say he likes everything else he reads in the paper. The paper simply can't please everyone every time. Perhaps he will find that it is better to read a publication that strives to be fair and accurate than it is to read one that looks at the readers and adjusts the news to meet their expectations.
